Joseph J. Hanna Jr., B.B.A., J.D., LL.M. (In Taxation) has been a senior tax law partner in Oregon since 1967. In addition to his time as a senior tax law partner, Joseph Hanna has written numerous articles in professional journals, publications, and books on the topics of estate tax planning and income taxation.
As a private attorney in a tax boutique law firm, Mr. Hanna’s expertise is in corporate, estate, wills, trusts, and tax law. He also has represented individuals and corporations in both tax and federal courts. Over his 40 years as a tax attorney in these areas, he has represented clients in international tax planning, formation, liquidation, mergers of corporations, partners, and other entities. Further, he has litigated cases regarding tax petitions and other tax cases in the United States Tax Court, federal courts, and local courts. He also has experience with real estate and individual income law, having represented many individuals and corporations before the Internal Revenue Service and has obtained numerous private tax rulings from the Internal Revenue Service at the national office in Washington D.C. He also drafted federal and state laws regarding the taxing of financial institutions, individuals, and corporations.
Mr. Hanna’s practice of the law has caused him to write extensively on the topics of estate planning and taxation for professionals. He has co-authorized Contemporary Trust and Will Forms: Selected Forms for Oregon Attorneys, 2nd Edition (1989), Wills and Trust Forms (2000), and Trust and Will Forms, 4th Edition (2003). He has also authored several articles on marital deduction tax reform, corporate liquidations, and incorporations, among many other tax topics.
Besides his established academic excellence and many professional accomplishments, Hanna is proud of the first fiction book he has authored, which is a children’s Christmas book titled “Tailgate Tilly.” His most recent book publication is currently pending and is schedule for release in the fall of 2024, titled “The Trials of Jesus Christ: Before, During, and After.”
Finally, Mr. Hanna has formed and managed many charitable and tax-exempt organizations regarding educational and medical purposes, including being president of the A.C.T.E.C. Charitable foundation. He has been for many years and is still on multiple boards in both charitable categories listed. He is a major advocate for charitable organizations and has been successful in raising millions of dollars for such charities.
Mr. Hanna also enjoys spending time advocating and promoting soccer in the United States as a former President of the World Cup Association in the Northwest during the 1994 World Cup.
